An organization’s busiest channel is often the WhatsApp line on one phone: “How do I donate?”, “Here is my receipt”, “Can the certificate say my mother’s name?”. There are two common ways to share that line. One is a cloud WhatsApp team inbox such as WATI; the other is a plugin such as Joinchat that adds a WhatsApp button to your site. This post compares Flux Chat with both and says when each is the better choice.
The short answer
- Joinchat is a free “chat on WhatsApp” button. It opens the visitor’s own WhatsApp; messages arrive on your phone. It is not a shared team inbox.
- WATI is a cloud team inbox on the official WhatsApp Business API. You pay a monthly subscription plus Meta’s messaging fees.
- Flux Chat is a shared inbox that brings WhatsApp into the WordPress admin. Donations are opened from the chat, receipts are matched, certificates are sent, and an AI assistant that knows your rules answers.
- Choose a competitor if you only want a WhatsApp button (Joinchat), or you need the official API, approved template messages and large-scale marketing campaigns (WATI).
Comparison table
| Joinchat / WATI | Flux Chat | |

| WhatsApp connection | Joinchat: the visitor’s app. WATI: the official WhatsApp Business API. | Through Flux Mail: Evolution API, Flux WPAPI or the official Cloud API. |
| Shared inbox | Not in Joinchat (Premium routes to several agents). Yes in WATI. | Yes: live list, assignment, labels, internal notes, quick replies, office hours. |
| Donations and orders | None. | Open a donation from the chat, send a payment link or IBAN, read and match receipts, send certificates. |
| AI assistant | An FAQ-trained AI agent in Joinchat Premium. AI features by plan in WATI. | Through Flux AI: answers by your rules, reads receipts, leaves approval to staff. |
| Where is the data? | In WATI’s cloud. | On your own WordPress site. |
| Cost | Joinchat free, Premium paid. WATI: monthly subscription plus Meta messaging fees. | Part of FluxWP; Meta’s messaging fees apply if you use the Cloud API. |

A button is not an inbox
Plugins such as Joinchat are perfect for sending visitors to WhatsApp. The message still lands on one phone, though: the team cannot share it, it is not linked to the donation, and evenings and weekends go unanswered. Flux Chat moves the line into WordPress. Everyone with access sees the same chats live, assigns them, labels them and leaves internal notes the donor never sees.
Donations from inside the chat
For a nonprofit, most WhatsApp conversations end in a donation. In Flux Chat you open the donation without leaving the chat, send a payment link or the IBAN, and receipts sent on WhatsApp are read and matched to the donation, with a warning if a receipt was used before. Approval always stays with an authorised person. Once payment is approved, the certificate is created and sent to the donor and to the person it is for.
The official API question
WATI runs on the official WhatsApp Business API, which makes it the better fit for template messages, the green-tick application and high-volume sending. Flux Chat can work with the official Cloud API and with Evolution API. Evolution API is an unofficial way to connect to WhatsApp: easy to set up and with no per-message fees, but it carries risk under WhatsApp’s terms. For high-volume or marketing sends we recommend the official Cloud API.
When a competitor is the better choice
- You only want a WhatsApp button on the site. Joinchat is free, light and set up in five minutes.
- You run marketing campaigns at scale. WATI’s template management, segments and campaign tools are made for it.
- Your team does not use WordPress. WATI’s web and mobile apps work independently of the site.
Frequently asked questions
Does WhatsApp on my phone keep working?
With Evolution API the line runs as a linked device, so WhatsApp on the phone stays active. With the official Cloud API the number moves to the API.
Does the AI assistant decide everything itself?
No. It answers questions, takes the order and reads the receipt, then leaves payment approval to the team with “an authorised person will approve it”. Anything it cannot do goes to a person.
Bottom line
Joinchat is a good choice for a WhatsApp button and WATI for large official-API campaigns. To share the WhatsApp line with your team, tie conversations to donations and certificates and keep the data on your own site, Flux Chat does it inside WordPress.
