A cookie-free Google Analytics alternative: Flux Analytics vs GA4 and MonsterInsights

FluxWP team 4 min read

Flux Analytics next to Google Analytics and MonsterInsights

Most people who want to measure traffic install Google Analytics first and, on WordPress, MonsterInsights to bring it into the admin. It is a good start: free, powerful and linked to the ad tools. It also comes at a price: a cookie banner, visitor data going to a third party and a heavy script on every page. This post compares the cookie-free Flux Analytics with Google Analytics and MonsterInsights, and is clear about when Google Analytics cannot be replaced.

The short answer

  • Google Analytics 4 is free and very capable. It sets cookies and stores data with Google, so under GDPR (and KVKK in Turkey) most sites need a consent banner.
  • MonsterInsights brings Google Analytics data into the WordPress admin. It collects nothing itself; e-commerce, custom dimensions and event tracking are in Pro.
  • Flux Analytics keeps the data on your own site. It stores no IP address or browser fingerprint and sets no cookies for counting. A donation funnel, visitor journeys and referral links for volunteers come ready.
  • Choose Google Analytics if you need Google Ads conversions, remarketing audiences, BigQuery export or cross-device user tracking.

The cookie banner and visitor data

When you add Google Analytics, visitor data goes to Google and a cookie is written in the browser, so most sites need consent first, and visitors who decline disappear from the reports. Flux Analytics stores no IP address, browser fingerprint or cookie for counting. A visitor is recognised only within the same day by a random key that is deleted the next day. Even the country comes from the browser’s time zone, not the IP.

Beyond page views: funnels and journeys

For a nonprofit the real question is not “how many came?” but “how many of them donated, and where did the rest give up?”. Flux Analytics ships with a donation funnel: site entry, donation page, checkout page, started the form, clicked “Place order”, donation completed. Break it down by channel, referring site, referral code, role or country. The journeys screen shows the order in which people browse and where they leave.

Speed

The GA4 tag adds its own script to every page. Flux Analytics’ front-end part is about 2 KB and its collection endpoint runs without loading WordPress. It counts correctly behind LiteSpeed and other page caches. Our Core Web Vitals guide explains why page weight matters for rankings.

When Google Analytics is the better choice

  • You run ads. Google Ads conversion tracking, remarketing audiences and campaign optimisation work with Google Analytics.
  • You need big-data analysis. BigQuery export, explorations and predictive metrics are in GA4.
  • You combine app and web data. GA4 puts a mobile app and a website in one property.
  • You can run both. Keep Flux Analytics as the cookie-free counter for everyone and load GA4 only for visitors who consent.

Frequently asked questions

Does the cookie banner go away completely?

Flux Analytics is designed to work without personal data and without counting cookies, so most sites need no banner for it. Leave the final call to your own legal adviser. If the site has another tool that needs consent (an ad pixel or embedded video, for example), you still need the banner for that, and list the referral-link cookie in your cookie policy.

Can I bring my old data?

From Koko Analytics, yes: historical data is imported without touching its tables. Google Analytics data cannot be imported.

Bottom line

Google Analytics has no equal for ads and big-data work. If your questions are how many people came, from where, and how many of them donated, you can answer them without handing visitor data to anyone and without a cookie banner. That is what Flux Analytics is for.
