ClickUp and Trello alternative inside WordPress: Flux Tasks compared

FluxWP team 3 min read

Flux Tasks next to ClickUp and Trello

When a team decides to track work, ClickUp and Trello are usually the first tools on the list. Both are mature, fast and have good mobile apps. Both also live outside your site: a separate account and login for every volunteer, and per-user pricing as the team grows. Flux Tasks brings task tracking into the WordPress admin the team already signs in to. This post compares the two approaches and is clear about when ClickUp or Trello is the better choice.

The short answer

  • ClickUp has a free plan with unlimited members, but 60 MB of storage and limited automations. Paid plans are priced per user per month.
  • Trello is board-first and very easy to learn. Advanced views and automations are on paid plans.
  • Flux Tasks runs inside WordPress: list, board and calendar views, custom fields, comments, meeting minutes and docs. No per-user fee, and the data stays on your own site.
  • Choose a competitor if your team never uses WordPress, you need hundreds of ready integrations, or strong mobile apps and offline use are a must.

The team is already in WordPress

A nonprofit’s volunteer projects tend to live in WhatsApp groups, spreadsheets and memory. A separate project tool means one more login for every volunteer and, as the team grows, one more bill. If the team already signs in to WordPress for content, donations or the call center, keeping tasks there is the path of least friction. Who sees what comes from the existing roles through Flux Roles.

Talk on the task

In Flux Tasks comments, mentions, files and the activity log sit on the task itself, not in a chat that scrolls away. Assignment, mention and due-date notices can go out by e-mail in Flux Mail’s shared design. Meeting lists keep agenda, decisions and follow-up subtasks together, with a branded PDF report at the end.

Ask the assistant

“What is overdue this week?”, “Split this into subtasks”, “Summarise the comments”. Flux Tasks’ tools are open to the Flux AI chat and to Claude over MCP, and the assistant works with the user’s own permissions.

When a competitor is the better choice

  • Your team never uses WordPress. Creating WordPress accounts just for tasks may not make sense.
  • You need many integrations. Slack, Google Drive, GitHub and calendar sync are ready in ClickUp and Trello.
  • Mobile apps and offline work are a must. Both have mature iOS and Android apps.
  • A simple board is enough. Trello’s free plan is a quick start for small teams.

Frequently asked questions

Do tasks slow the site down?

Flux Tasks runs only in the admin; it adds nothing to the pages visitors see.

Are files public?

No. Files attached to comments are kept in a non-public folder and only authorised users can download them.

Bottom line

ClickUp and Trello are strong tools for teams that work outside WordPress. If your team is already in WordPress and you want the data on your own site without per-user fees, Flux Tasks brings task tracking into the same admin.
